| GALAPAGOS ISLANDS |
| Galapagos islands are located at the equator, 1000 km to the west from South America. The islands are well-known for their unique nature, which original symbol is gigantic turtles (galapagos). Many of local animals live only in Galapagos islands. The climate of the islands is arid. Sweet water is rarity here. Lava fields cover most part of the territory. Galapagos islands belong to Republic of Ecuador. Population - about 20 000 inhabitants. Area - 7 882 qu.km. The largest of the islands - Isabela (130 km in length). It has 3 active volcanoes. One of them (Wolf - 1 707 m) is the highest point of the islands. |
