    THE EAST (VOSTOK) LAKE
The ice cap of Antarctica keeps many mysteries. One of them is the large lake East (length - 500 km, width - 150 km.) located at the very center of the continent. The stratum of ice above the lake extended to 3 500 m.. Waters of the lake were ice-covered about 25 mil. years ago. This is an unique under-ice reservation. In order to research the lake scientists holed the ice 3 km deep. However the drilling was stopped to prepare tools to contact with the air and the water world of the frozen lake. The tools should minimize pollution.
