    GEYSERS OF ICELAND
The word "geyser" came to English from Icelandic language. Iceland is rich in these fountains of hot water (average temperature = +75 C) that well out from underground. There are about 800 geysers here. The most famous of them is Great Geyser located in 116 km to the east from Reykjavik. Hot water of geysers has been used for heating dwellings since 1925. It fully supplies Reykjavik and other towns of the island. There is a town - Hveraterdi in 40 km to the east from Reykjavik. It's well-known for its hothouse gardening farms on the base of geysers. Geysers are also used for generating electricity.
